As you make plans for this weekend, keep in mind that The Mid-Carolina High School Drama Club will be performing a one night presentation of "The Southfield Stories," a contemporary take on The Canterbury Tales. The play will be this Saturday, May 19th at 7:30 in the Mid-Carolina Middle School gym. Tickets will be $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

REMINDER ABOUT EOC WEEK: Students taking EOC tests are to report to their regular classroom so teachers can take attendance, and then they are to report directly to their assigned EOC classroom (within 3 minutes of the tardy bell). Please help with this schedule throughout the week. An announcement will only be made after the 7:45 tardy bell first thing every morning.
Great news! MCHS has been selected to receive a 2011-2012 Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant from the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF). This grant of $5,000 will be used to repair our outdoor electronic sign.
Congratulations to our Teacher of the Week, LTC Brooks. LTC Brooks does a great job organizing servers for Golden Oldies, recruiting upcoming 9th graders for JROTC and demonstrating leadership throughout our school!
Congratulations to the MCHS Archery Team! Out of 126 high schools across the Nation, Mid-Carolina High School placed 38th. They shot a total score of 3267 with 141 tens. The top score in the high school division was 3437 with 218 tens. Congratulations to all! Also, congratulations to 9th grader Reid Webster for shooting a 291 with 22 tens and placing in the top 5% for individuals. He placed 24th in his division, 11th for his grade, and 32nd overall. Not only did MCHS have an excellent performance today, they also made history! Competing with over 7,800 archers, they are now part of Guinness Book of World Records for participating in the largest archery tournament ever! We are so proud of how you all represented our state, county, and school!

Another Teacher Appreciation Celebration: Lasagna, Salad, Drink and Dessert will be served during both lunches in the 2nd floor kitchen courtesy of The School Climate Team! Please remember that our award winning Archery Team is leaving this afternoon for the National Archery Competition in Louisville, Kentucky! Wishing them best of luck! And tonight is our Golden Oldies Celebration in the cafeteria. Many of our teachers and students have worked hard to prepare for tonight.

Mid-Carolina High School’s Annual Art Show will take place tonight. Art I, II, III, AP, and Photography students’ work will be displayed for viewing beginning at 6:30 p.m. and awards will begin at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the MCHS cafeteria. Please come out and support our students and their hard work. The varsity boys soccer team will play at Newberry tonight at 6 in the first round of the playoffs. Happy birthday to Donald Foster!

Yesterday was an exciting and full day at MCHigh! Thanks to everyone for such a successful HSAP testing week and a very interesting Career Fair! I heard some great comments from presenters and students!

HSAP testing continues today - thanks to everyone for a fabulous first day of testing yesterday! Students who are not testing will be in the gym (several have signed up to take the ASVAB as well, but more are welcome to do so - refer them to guidance first thing this morning).
Department meetings will take place today, beginning at 3:20 p.m. You’ll be going through course requests to make sure students have met the necessary prerequisites. Please refer to the program of studies (POS 2011-2012.docx) for necessary guidelines.

Our teacher of the week is Coach Alexander. Aside from his regular teaching duties, Coach A. stays busy making sure our athletic programs run smoothly. He works hard to ensure all students meet eligibility requirements and that fields are maintained and looking nice. He is the head coach of not one, but TWO teams, keeping him super-busy from summer to late spring. Thanks for all you do, Coach A!

It's Flip Flop Friday today! We hope we have a lot of participants wearing their flops to support Relay for Life.
Student council is sponsoring student-faculty games today from 2:15-3:05. Students must pay $2 to come watch. It is also Amazing Race day. Thanks to all faculty and staff who volunteered to participate in or help with these events – we can’t do it without you! And special thanks go out to student council sponsors for putting it all together! Please stay in your classroom with students who don’t pay until they are “picked up” by the teacher who is monitoring them (Reamer upstairs and LaBarre downstairs).

Congratulations to our teacher of the week, Jason Long. Mr. Long is someone you can always count on. He has an excellent rapport with his students and is a pleasure to work with. He and Coach J. Harris have been doing a great job with the archery team and took them to compete at the state level on Friday. Thank you, Mr. Long!

Great news! Two familiar faces will be back at MCHS next year. Former student, Jessica Seibert, will be joining our special education department as a resource teacher. She will also be coaching girls’ sports. Jessica graduated from MCHS in the early 2000s. And, no stranger to most of you, Eva Nagy will be coming back to the math department. As you know, Eva was with us for five years until 2011.
You may also notice another familiar face around…Deann (Shealy) McManus. Deann is a graduate of MCHS from the early 90s. She is subbing for Ms. Sparrow while she is out on leave. Please keep Deann informed as to how her ESOL students are doing in your class, just as you would Ms. Sparrow. You can drop by her classroom or put a note in her box since she doesn’t have a district email account.
Tanner O’Cain will be participating in the SCMEA All-State Chorus trip to Winthrop University today through Saturday. Wish him luck!

Our teacher of the week is Mr. Eargle. He does a fantastic job both inside and outside of the classroom. From his engaging, thought-provoking lessons for students and peers across SC and the nation, to his activism with educational policy issues, he is definitely a busy guy. His efforts in getting teachers more active in policy issues, through his TLT and SIC leadership, are definitely appreciated. He is truly and advocate for public education. Thanks, Mr. Eargle!
And thanks to Ms. Koch and her team for another fantastic Miss Mid-Carolina High School Pageant on Saturday night! Lots of hard work by the whole team was very evident! Winners will be posted to announcements.

Our teacher of the week is Mrs. Epps. She has been a blessing to MCHS! She works hard to challenge students and prepare them for life after high school. She also has been working very hard with the Beta Club to ensure that the club was well-represented and looked after at the recent convention in Myrtle Beach. Her message to students at our assembly last week left a lasting impression. Thanks for all you do, Mrs. Epps!

The varsity softball team will play in the Newberry County Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Rebels will play on Friday night at 4:30 and 8:00 and again on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. All four games will be played at Mid-Carolina.
The prom committee will meet in Mrs. Bryant’s room today during second lunch.
